We Survived Disney’s ESPN the Weekend 5K

Posted on

Good morning all! Today is the day after race day. Yep, we did another race. Yep, it was at Walt Disney World. And it was great!

OK, great is a post race reaction. There were moments that hurt and were difficult and we both wondered if we could do what we had set out to accomplish. Well, we did. I wanted to beat my time of last week’s 5K and run a majority of the race (as opposed to walking with running spurts.) We have been following the Jeff Galloway training plan that has you running only 3 days a week. This has been great! It gives your muscles a chance to heal between runs, something we did not think about last year when we would run everyday until we HAD to take a day off from sheer exhaustion.

So last week I finished in about 40:18. I say about because it was the time off my timer. No D-tag timer for a family fun run. Here is this week…

John and I are proud of this week. We know we have far to go before the 1/2 marathon in October but this makes us both realize that we are on the right track.

Whatever you are doing, don’t give up. Don’t get discouraged. Life change is not supposed to be easy. I am sitting here with aching quads, sore hamstrings and a knee that has had better days. And I love it! This means the muscles worked hard. They get a few days off and then we continue. The journey has just begun…

Check out Jeff Galloway’s training plans.

  4. Jillian, it was a great race. I missed the characters from the family fun runs but the energy and excitement were pure Disney.
Will we see you at the Expedition Everest Challenge?

  6. Kristen – Watching you tough through that 5K last year, knowing how much pain you were in, was inspiring! We have no excuses to slack off if you are going to push yourself that hard.
